SMRC represents the interests of the maintenance, repair, conversion and retrofit yards in Europe. The characteristics of the industry differ from the new building industry in several ways, e.g. business, regulation, policy, work force and competition.

SMRC represents the industry in all fields where necessary. SMRC is the voice of ship repair in Europe. The main focus of SMRC is on policy and regulation. SMRC is in close contact with the European Commission and several European agencies of which the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA) is the most important one. Furthermore, SMRC is a source of information for those who want to know more about the industry.
